Making Tea Time Special
A quick Google search on "afternoon tea with mom" will give you many images of elegant tables set with flowers, numerous suggestions for tea houses, and Mother's Day events. What we offer in our annual homeschool tea is an opportunity for moms and daughters to carve out time at the end of the school year to slow down and enjoy each other--far from the books, PSATs and SATs, and deadlines.
Some families do take the time to hang out--maybe at a cafè for "girl talk"--or perhaps schedule a more casual girltime with movies and shopping. But in many ways, dressing up the parish hall and sipping from pretty tea cups, listening to an inspiring speaker about authentic femininity and Christian virtues, and pausing to see how we've all grown since the last tea time--experiencing all these with other like-minded homeschoolers makes this tea time different, and special.
It all starts with that first scroll, and the surprise tea cup that the girls receive from their moms.
It continues with some little craft they make, or card they write for their moms.
At the end of the afternoon, we all feel a bit richer with thoughts to take home and ponder. The moms had time to catch up with other moms; the girls, perhaps divested of their pretty shoes, found time to play. In very simple ways, we make our afternoon tea special and memorable. Until the next time.
